Instagram is testing out a new characteristic known as Templates, while it also tests a new option to promote the Reels in your main feed, mainly to rise and meet the formidable competition; TikTok. Said feature lets users create more engaging Reels by borrowing formats from other videos on the same platform.
This new characteristic is somewhat similar to TikTok’s personal template instrument. It allows the user to drop their own content material into a premade sequence. The user can use this feature to easily borrow the format of any other Reel, by simply replacing the existing video with his/her own content. This could be perceived as a simple way to improve the timing of one’s Reels, or as creative inspiration in order to make better content.
Sources had caught sight of an early version of the template in March 2022, when Josephine Hill, a marketing manager and influencer posted a screenshot after getting to experience the new characteristic.
The testing of this new feature could possibly be Instagram’s attempt to ‘kill two birds with one stone’; to attract more creators to Reels, and to get rid of TikTok reposts, which have grown to be one of Instagram’s biggest problems. These templates could help make it easier to make videos on Reels and quite possibly encourage the making of more original content as Instagram has said last year that it would stop promoting Reels with TikTok watermark.
Instagram had confirmed recently that the new Template feature is currently being tested “with a small group of creators”.
