The Saudi Halal Center, operating under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, has introduced a new Halal Mark Track aligned with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, marking a significant step in strengthening the credibility and sustainability of the Kingdom’s halal ecosystem. The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader vision to position itself as a global leader in the halal industry while integrating internationally recognised sustainability principles.

The launch forms part of an integrated partnership between the Halal Product Development Company, which is owned by the Public Investment Fund, and THIQAH. Together, these entities aim to enhance trust, transparency, and long-term value across the halal supply chain. By embedding ESG considerations into halal certification, the initiative addresses growing global demand for products that meet both religious and sustainability expectations.

The Halal Mark Track represents a qualitative shift in certification practices. It integrates the Kingdom’s approved halal standards, overseen by the Saudi Halal Center, with ESG compliance requirements. This combined framework is designed to increase confidence among consumers and investors, while improving the competitive positioning of halal products in regional and international markets. As global trade increasingly prioritises ethical sourcing and sustainability, this alignment offers Saudi-certified products a clear advantage.

Central to the initiative is the collaboration between the Halal Product Development Company and THIQAH to build an advanced, data-driven ecosystem. This system focuses on improving beneficiary experience and applying precise, transparent criteria to evaluate products and services. Establishments that obtain the Halal Mark Track gain a higher level of distinction, supporting their expansion both within the Kingdom and abroad. At the same time, manufacturers and service providers are guided to meet quality, compliance, and sustainability benchmarks through a trusted and internationally relevant framework.

Strategically, the ESG-aligned Halal Mark Track is expected to raise quality and compliance standards across the halal sector. It enables companies to improve operational efficiency, unlock export opportunities, and reinforces Saudi Arabia’s role as a central hub in the global halal industry, bridging tradition with modern sustainability imperatives.
