President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s recent visit to Russia was marked not just by ceremony, but by a sense of momentum that reflects how far UAE-Russia ties have come, and where they are headed. The warm welcome extended in Moscow symbolized the depth of a relationship that has been steadily expanding across diplomacy, trade, culture, and security.
In just the past two years, leaders from both nations have met repeatedly, underscoring the importance they place on each other as strategic partners. Sheikh Mohamed’s August 2025 trip was his second in less than a year, following his presence at the BRICS Summit, while Russian President Vladimir Putin’s 2023 visit to Abu Dhabi highlighted the same commitment. These encounters have produced agreements on investment, transport, and technology, opening new doors for collaboration.
Economically, the partnership is thriving. Non-oil trade climbed to $11.5 billion in 2024, with Russia exporting everything from precious metals to agricultural products, while the UAE sent boats, furniture, and spices in return. Both sides are determined to double these figures within five years, supported by the UAE’s role as Russia’s largest Arab investor. Meanwhile, people-to-people ties flourish: two million Russian tourists visited Abu Dhabi and Dubai last year alone.

Yet, this partnership is not only about commerce. The UAE’s reputation as a neutral mediator, demonstrated by its humanitarian role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, has cemented its place as a trusted bridge-builder on the global stage. Joint efforts against crime, terrorism, and cyber threats further highlight the multidimensional nature of the relationship.
After more than five decades of cooperation, the UAE and Russia are now poised to shape a new chapter together, one built on mutual respect, balance, and a shared vision for stability in an increasingly multipolar world.
