Sri Lankan Airlines has issued a public warning after identifying a surge in scam activities targeting passengers and potential customers. The airline said several incidents have been reported involving individuals impersonating airline staff in an attempt to obtain sensitive personal and financial information.
According to the airline, scammers have been contacting people through WhatsApp messages and direct phone calls while posing as Sri Lankan Airlines representatives. In some cases, victims were asked to install mobile applications, share their phone screens, or provide confidential financial details.
The fraudulent callers have reportedly attempted to obtain sensitive information including one time passwords (OTPs), banking PINs, and credit card details. Such information could allow scammers to access personal accounts or carry out unauthorized financial transactions.
Sri Lankan Airlines emphasized that it does not contact customers through WhatsApp or make unsolicited phone calls regarding ticketing, promotions, or any other services. The airline also stressed that it will never request confidential details such as OTPs, banking PINs, credit card information, or ask customers to share their screens or install applications.
Passengers and members of the public are being urged to remain vigilant and ignore suspicious communications. The airline advised customers to verify any promotions or offers only through its official website or verified social media channels and to report suspected scams to the relevant authorities.
