Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms is moving closer to what could become one of India’s largest-ever initial public offerings, with the company preparing to begin formal investor outreach as early as next week.
The digital and telecommunications arm of Reliance Industries is expected to meet potential investors across major global financial centres, including the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, London and the Middle East. The company is currently targeting a November listing, although the timing and structure of the offering remain subject to change.
Jio Platforms submitted its draft IPO documents to India’s market regulator in June and received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India in August. The proposed offering could involve up to 270 million new shares, representing approximately 2.9% of the company's equity.
The company is reportedly seeking to raise as much as $4 billion, which would make the listing a major event for India's capital markets. Part of the proceeds is expected to be used to reduce Jio's debt.
The potential IPO comes after years of rapid expansion for Jio, which has transformed India's telecommunications industry since entering the market in 2016. Its wireless business has grown into India's largest mobile operator, while the wider Jio Platforms ecosystem has expanded into digital services, entertainment, broadband and other technology-driven businesses.
